The whole line of Redmi (including the Redmi 4 phone) includes budget smartphones with medium/budget hardware; And Xiaomi Mi5 is a powerful flagship with high performance, classy display and camera. The flagship Mi5 uses CPU Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 MSM8996 which is in general out of competition, and in the list of the most productive processors in 2016 by version of Antutu, it took the 1 place!
The 4-core chip scored 136 383 points in the Antutu program, which is more than 2 times greater than the result of Redmi 4 Pro with Snapdragon 625 CPU. As a result, the flagship Xiaomi Mi5 wins with a huge margin over the hardware. This should be expected, given the large difference in the price of smartphones. But thanks to the Snapdragon 820 processor, this difference is more than justified.
Camera is the next difference between these smartphones. Already from the table it’s clear that in Xiaomi Mi5 the camera is best due to parameter of the aperture F/2. We won’t say anything about the front camera; it’s ordinary, without manual settings. But claims to it are not special.
But the rear sensor Sony IMX298 with 4-axis optical stabilization deserves attention. Let’s start with a simple: outside the camera lens is closed with a sapphire crystal. There is a phase autofocus it’s fast and error-free. Also there is a multi-colored flash, which is much brighter than the average level. In the settings there is not a word about optical stabilization, so you can’t enable / disable it.
The camera application is standard for MIUI. The user has access to a number of settings, but some parameters are “foggy”. For example, you can’t select the resolution of a picture, you can only select the quality: high, medium, low. However, you can set the level of IOS, white balance, saturation, clarity, etc. There are different shooting modes: night, panoramic and others.
Distinctive feature of the camera is the recording of 4K UHD video (3840×2160). There is also a function for recording to slo-mo at a rate of 120 frames per second and at 720p. But the quality of the image will suffer, so don’t take this option as something grandiose positive. In general, the video is a little jerky and “ragged”, the squares (artifacts) are visible in places, so the Xiaomi Mi5 is inferior to the competitors of Samsung or LG in terms of video shooting.

The XiaomiRedmi 4 Prime uses a 13-megapixel sensor with F / 2.2 aperture. There is a phase focusing with two-color flash and optical stabilization. Under normal lighting, the quality of the images is good, but the graininess in the photo is already noticeable in the shadows.
If you limit viewing photos on your smartphone’s screen and publish them in social networks, then the quality of the pictures can be called good, but if you compare the frames with the photos in detail with flagships, then pictures are lose a lot.

Considering that Redmi 4 Prime is a budget smartphone the camera good corresponds to the cost of device.
Conclusion: according to the camera parameter, Mi5 is expected to be winner. But we note that the difference in quality won’t be noticeable on the screen of the smartphone.
This is the only one parameter by which the phone Redmy 4 Prime confidently wins. The gadget equipped with a battery capacity of 4100 mAh, and with economical processor with low power consumption capacity will last for a long time. You can even say that Redmi 4 Prime has set a kind of record of autonomy among smartphones.
If the device isn’t touched at all, then without load, it will keep the charge for a month. With moderate use (a couple of hours of correspondence, web surfing in 4g, listening to music) it will have to be charged in the evening of the second day. That is, within 1.5 days it confidently holds a charge. If you save battery and reduce brightness, for example, during surfing on the Internet, then it will last for 3 days. And this is an amazing result.
As for the Mi5, we can’t say with confidence that the battery capacity of 3000 mAh for the FullHD 5-inch flagship is low. 3000 mAh is enough for this gadget. According to the test results, the smartphone during the hour of the game in Asphalt 8 was discharged by 18%. Consequently, the battery can withstand 5.5 hours of play. With moderate use (about 4 hours during the day) the device will last 1-1.5 days, and it’s not bad.
In terms of autonomy, the budget Redmi 4 Prime wins, which lives 2 times longer than the flagship Mi5. But this is only one parameter in favor of this smartphone.
Another small difference is the diaposone standards for LTE. Redmi 4 supports 4G LTE in the bands 850, 900, 1800, 2100, 2600 MHz. This list is more extended for the Mi5 phone: 1800, 2100, 2600 MHz; TDD: 1900, 2300, 2500, 2600 MHz.
Conclusion and video reviews
Initially, comparison of the flagship with a low/mid-range smartphone was unfair. The Mi5 is expected to win in many ways.
