Xiaomi Mi5 vs Redmi Note

The phones that we are going to compare are different. Mi5 is a cool flagship with a TOP processor and high performance, Redmi Note 4 is a budget device, although quite decent. Therefore, before the beginning of the comparison, you can easily identify the winner – it will be Xiaomi Mi5.

Specs comparison

As a basis, we’re going to compare smartphones with built-in storage 32 GB.

As you can see from the table, smartphones have different price categories, Mi5 will cost about 100 USD more than Redmi Note 4. However, the processor and cool camera fully justify the high price.

Processor and productivity

Let’s start with the most important difference – from the CPU.

Snapdragon 820 in Xiaomi Mi5

The flagship Mi5 uses one of the best modern mobile CPUs – Snapdragon 820 MSM8996 with 4 cores, which is gaining 136,000 points in the synthetic test Antutu. Moreover, this is the most powerful CPU in 2016, and at the beginning of 2017 this leadership retains it. The chipset has a built-in video card Adreno 530, which is also in some way revolutionary. The fact is that Adreno 530 is 40% more efficient than the predecessor Adreno 430.

MediaTek Helio X20 in the Redmi Note 4

As for the MediaTek Helio X20 (Redmi Note 4), this is a unique development in its way. This is the first mobile processor that got 10 cores. It has a Tri-Cluster architecture: 4х2 GHz, 4х1.6 GHz, 2х2.5 GHz. There is a built-in video card Mali-T880MP4. The processor is good for a budget smartphone, but it can’t compete with TOP hardware. According to the Antutu test, gadget is gaining 90,000 points, and this is not enough for the result of the 4-core Snapdragon 820 MSM8996. Hence the conclusion: don’t chase multi-core. Often the number of cores doesn’t play a big role and this is just a marketing ploy to increase the number of sales.

Let’s give due: at good enough productivity the cost price of CPU Helio X20 is very low and is about $30, while the cost price of Snapdragon 820 MSM8996 about $70. So don’t be surprised that the flagship Mi5 is more expensive.

The second important difference is cameras. In the phone Redmi Note 4 is used a bad camera, although considering that it’s budget category it’s still fine. There were hopes that after Redmi Note 3 Note 4 would appear with a more cool camera, but they didn’t materialize. The camera in this smartphone takes good pictures only during daylight hours and only under perfect lighting conditions. In the shadows, when zoom the photo, there will be noises. About the photo at night time even nothing to say … Not only the quality (noise) suffers, but also the color rendition – the flash strongly shines objects and makes them white.

If we talk about Xiaomi Mi5 we will notice that there is completely different story. The gadget uses a classy Sony IMX298 sensor with 4-axis optical stabilization. Options:

  1. Lens with 6 lenses;
  2. Diaphragm f / 2.0;
  3. 2-tone flash;
  4. Sapphire crystal (protection);
  5. Phase autofocus.

Mi5 supports Deep Trench Technology, which reduces the amount of noise in the photo and improves color reproduction. We won’t explain how it works, the only one thing is important that it improves the picture quality.

As a result, photos even at night time are decent, in light – almost perfect.

Comparison with the sensor iPhone 6S Plus

This is the only one criterion where Redmi Note 4 wins, because here is used a large battery at 4100 mAh. In general, the gadgets of the Redmi line set records for autonomy. The manufacturer managed to place a battery in such a thin shell with such a large capacity, due to which within three to four days of normal operation the phone will work without recharging. There are rumors that in the waiting mode the device will live about a month. With active use (Internet, communication, music), it’s discharged within 1.5 days.

The Mi5 has a 3000 mAh battery. Considering the gluttonous hardware, it may seem that such a capacity is not enough. But if you believe the feedback of users, the phone lives for a day without recharging, and it’s good for a modern smartphone. Gadget can withstand 5.5 hours of play in Asphalt 8.But anyhow it still can’t be compete with Redmi Note 4 for autonomy.

If we talk about appearance and assembly, then everything is fine. The only complaint is to the phone Redmi Note 4 and its plastic inserts at the top and bottom of the case. Because plastic with time might a little creak. There is also a very small gap between the body and the glass, where dust penetrates. But in general, there are no complaints about the quality of the assembly and the phone as a whole. Also, there are no claims to the flagship Mi5, which is executed “on conscience” and gives the impression of a monolithic gadget.
