There is statistics of smartphone sales in 2017. It became clear that Chinese phone manufacturers (Xiaomi, Meizu, Huawei) are gradually taking over the world market, however, in this fight of the Chinese, Meizu is losing.
In 2017 the number of smartphones was sold:
Samsung – 317 000 000 pcs.
- Apple – 215 million.
- Huawei – 153 million.
- Oppo – 111,000,000.
- Xiaomi – 92 000 000.
That is, the Chinese brand Huawei was in the TOP 3, Xiaomi – in the top 5. But the manufacturer Meizu managed to realize only 20 million gadgets, which is 10% lower compared to the previous year (in 2016 Meizu sold 22 million phones).
This prompted speculation – why Meizu is so inferior to Xiaomi, because on the Russian and Indian markets Meizu gadgets are also actively advertised.
Differences between Xiaomi and Meizu – MediaTek vs Qualcomm Snapdragon
The main difference between smartphones of both brands hidden inside – it’s hardware. Historically Xiaomi uses Qualcomm products and installs Snapdragon chipsets into their phones. In budget smartphones Snapdragon 425 or 430 processors are used, Snapdragon 625 and 635 are installed in the middle price range gadgets, and Snapdragon 821, 835, 845 is a chipset with the implemented machine learning technologies, support for two cameras and even the possibility of 4K video recording in flagships.
Meizu cooperates with the company Mediatek. Unlike Qualcomm, Mediatek produces less expensive and efficient processors, which are not bad in budget devices. And although there are TOP-based processors Mediatek Helio X25, X30 with 10 cores and three-cluster architecture, they gets lower performance compared to the best Snapdragon chipsets. Also Snapdragon processors are more energy efficient and technological, and therefore are more expensive.
It has long been known that Meizu makes budget smartphones with weak processors. Even flagships such as Meizu Pro 7 with two cameras are not impressive and show mediocre results when testing in benchmarks and assessing the quality of the photo. But on the basis of Qualcomm, there are TOP smartphones such as Google Pixel 2, Samsung Galaxy S8, S9.
Because of the hardware Xiaomi superior its competitor Meizu. As a result of using the best processors, Xiaomi smartphones receive functionality that is not available in Meizu phones. Its gadgets work more slowly, so buyers prefer Xiaomi gadgets with Qualcomm chipsets.
