Not only Apple, Samsung, Google and Sony produce phones with good cameras. Chinese manufacturers are not just lagging behind, but even ahead of the mentioned companies in terms of shooting on smartphones cameras. Now – the best phones of Chinese brands with great cameras. Photo samples are attached.
In December 2018, there is nothing better than the flagship of Huawei. Model Mate 20 Pro has the world’s coolest 3-module camera with advanced features.
Huawei Mate 20 Pro got a new 7-nm Kirin 980 processor with AI technology, that was successfully implemented for recognizing scenes when shooting.
Camera specifications with 3 modules:
The main sensor is 40 Mp, the matrix size is 1 / 1.7 inches, f / 1.8 aperture.
Additional – wide-angle module with a focal length of 16 mm, 20 megapixels, the size of matrix 1 / 2.7 inch.
The third module – with a telephoto lens, focal length 80 mm, size 1/4 inch, optical stabilization, 5X-zoom.
Thanks to the three sensors, the phone can shoot with a 5-x optical zoom without loss of quality, and also capture more space thanks to wide-angle optics. It also can record 4K video at 30 FPS, Full HD – at 60 FPS; HD – at 960 FPS.
Huawei Mate 20 Pro camera samples:
The main competitor of the flagship – the new Google Pixel 3, which is inferior in color rendition and dynamic range. Proof – photos taken under equal lighting conditions for both flagships:
Crops that I made from the photo above:
It turns out that the Huawei Mate 20 Pro is the best camera phone in the world at the end of 2018. In addition to cameras, it has a lot of other cool chips: fingerprint scanner in the display, fast charging (70% for 30 minutes), NFC, stereo speakers, wireless charging, etc.
2 place – OnePlus 6T
Phones of the Chinese brand OnePlus never got good cameras, although they were always performed with Top hardware. The new improved OnePlus 6T surprised the fans. Naturally, it received the most powerful processor from Qualcomm – Snapdragon 845 with Adreno 630 graphics, cool Amoled-screen by Samsung and Android 9 Pie software.
The main sensor – Sony IMX 519, size of 1 / 2.6 inches and a resolution of 16 megapixels. The pixel size is 1.22 um. Optics with stabilization and aperture f/1.7.
Additional camera – Sony IMX376K with 1 um pixels. The real resolution is 16 megapixels, but we see in characteristics resolution of 20 megapixels (interpolate, not real). Aperture f/1.7, the matrix size of 1 / 2.8 inches.
Functionality: 4K recording at 30 and 60 FPS, Full HD – 240 FPS; HD – 480 FPS.
The phone takes good pictures in daylight, performs accurate portrait shots with artistic blur and shoots cool even at night.
Sample photos on the OnePlus 6T camera:
The OnePlus 6T is very close by quality to the Mate 20 Pro, but the difference in price is significant – 1+ cheaper, and it has all the same features: fingerprint scanner under the display, Face Unlock technology and cool optimized OxygenOS software. It is an excellent device that beats Korean, American and, moreover, Japanese counterparts in terms of speed and quality of shooting.
3 place – Huawei P20 Pro
Device was released in April 2018, although it was so cool in camera, that even the new iPhone XS and Samsung Note9 could not beat it. And in general, the P20 Pro was the first phone with 3 implement sensors with AI-technology, so in a sense, Huawei made a revolution with this phone.
The phone got a 10-nm chipset Kirin 970 (already released Kirin 980), Amoled-screen and 6 or 8 GB of RAM. NFC, 2-band Wi-Fi, and fast charging are included.
The main module: 40 Mp, the matrix is 1/1.7 inch in size, optical stabilization, f / 1.8 aperture, focal length 27 mm.
Additional sensor: monochrome, size 1 / 2.7 inches, optical stabilization, optics with f / 1.6 aperture.
Telephoto camera: 8 MP, f / 2.4, focal length 80 mm, 3x zoom, optical stabilization.
Any scenes, including complex, are given to the smartphone easily. Examples of photos on the Huawei P20 Pro:
Excellent Chinese smartphone with a good camera, which was the best in the middle of 2018, but with the release of Mate 20 Pro and OnePlus 6T, it drops to the 3rd place. New Google Pixel 3 may be better than the P20 Pro, but as it is an American device, it has no place in this review.
4 place – Xiaomi Mi Mix 3
The new phone of the Chinese brand Xiaomi has become a full frameless. 85% of the front panel area gone under the screen, and that is a very high figure. It has become real due to the slide mechanism.
The smartphone got an Amoled-matrix and a Snapdragon 845 processor, 8 or 10 GB of RAM. Consequently, the power reserve is solid. NFC, fast Wi-Fi, wireless charging are included, but first of all we are interested in the possibilities of camera shooting.
Specialists of the DxOMark studio made a detailed analysis of the photo and video capabilities of the flagship, and according to the results of the tests they put the device at 5th place of their camera phone rating (full DxOMark rating).
Smartphone has 2 rear cameras:
The main module is 12 Mp, size 1/2.55 inch, pixels size 1.4 microns, Dual Pixel technology, 4-axis optical stabilization, aperture f/1.8.
According to the results of testing DxOMark, it is obvious that Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 shoots very cool, with a wide dynamic range, high details and a minimum amount of noise in monotonous parts of the scene.
Device does not reach the level of P20 Pro, OnePlus 6 and especially Mate 20 Pro. However, it is cheaper.
5 place – Huawei P20
Huawei P20 Pro is on the 3rd position of the rating, but do not forget about P20 (without the Pro prefix) that is also positioned as a camera phone. There are few differences from the Pro version: an IPS-display (not Amoled) and two cameras on the back of the case, without a telephoto lens. Hardware the same – the top-end at the time of release (March 2018) HiSilicon Kirin 970 processor.
Color and monochrome modules work in pairs – they get information about the color and light of the scene, then the processing algorithm creates a picture, so we get a fairly accurate snapshot with high detail and display of small objects in dark and light areas of the scene at the same time.
Many users claim that they do not see the difference between the photos made on the cameras of Huawei P20 and P20 Pro. In part, this is true, the differences are not visible even when comparing test shots obtained in studio conditions under the same light.
