Both Huawei P9 and Samsung S7 are the flagships in the lines of their manufacturers. The difference between them is cardinal. These are completely different smartphones for performance, stuffing, features and cost. Let’s determine the main differences between them and come to the conclusion which one is better.

Let’s talk about the hardware from Samsung. There are 2 different versions: based on the 4-core CPU Snapdragon 820 and based on the processor of its own production Exynos 8890. Both versions are equal in performance and at a price they do not differ much from each other.
What is good in Huawei P9?
P9 this is a good flagship, which in performance is inferior to many competitors. Built on the basis of its own HiSilicon Kirin 955 processor, the phone boasts high performance, but not big enough to compete with other flagships (the same Samsung S7). In the Antutu benchmark, the P9 phone with this processor scores 87,889 points (see screenshot).
Such a result shows that the flagship is in principle able to pull “heavy” applications, games, but with multitasking it will be difficult. On the same screen you can see the performance of the Galaxy S7 Edge (134559 points) and Xiaomi Mi5 (135663). This is for comparison.
The display in P9 is not bad, but it can’t be called perfect. The matrix here doesn’t have the best indicators of contrast and brightness, although the picture looks natural. Unlike Samsung Galaxy S7, the display resolution is 1920×1080 (Full HD). On the one hand, this is a lower resolution, although on the other hand, a difference of 5.2 inches won’t be noticeable. And the power consumption of Full HD display compared to the 2K screen will be much lower.
Obviously, the specs of this smartphone are approximately equal to those of other similar flagships. But there is one unusual difference – the camera. It uses two rear sensors at once, and they aren’t for creating a stereo picture or a blurry background effect (although this function is also available). Both Sony IMX286 sensors have equal resolution, the left module is designed for shooting in black and white, the right one is in color. This allows you to get a lot of light and information about the dynamic range. Sensitivity of the sensor increases at times. The data from two cameras are combined and, as a result, a high-quality picture is obtained.

Samsung Galaxy S7
This is a more expensive flagship. But the higher price is justified by the possibilities.
Let’s start with the screen. Here we use a classy SuperAMOLED display with a diagonal of 5.1 inches with a resolution of QHD (2K). This technology is one of the best for today. Many competitors buy from Samsung this technology, which says about prospects.
The screen at S7 is beautiful in the sun. There are no glints, no glare, colors are always bright and saturated, the text is readable. Also, there is an implemented technology Always On , thanks to which even on a locked display you can see the time, calendar, battery charge and other information (you can select a topic). This is a cool technology that outputs the picture in color, and it’s visible even in the sun and in the dark. You can’t be afraid that this technology will “eat” the battery, because for 12 hours of work on Always On, about 1% of the battery charge is spent.
Now the camera … here is used the Sony IMX260 module, developed exclusively for Samsung. A good feature is the aperture of the f / 1.7 lens, the pixel size is 1.4 microns. Also it’s worth noting the autofocus system Dual Pixel, due to which the focusing is carried out over the entire area of the matrix. This means that each pixel takes part in the phase autofocus. As a result, the brightness and clarity of the image grows, even in the evening the pictures are good. Also in the settings of the camera application there are new scenes. In comparison with the predecessor Samsnung Galaxy S6 in S7, the camera became noticeably better.

The quality of the photo can be judged on the camera. In the S7, it’s not bad, but the level of Huawei P9 is pretty high. So, the victory by the specs of the rear camera wins flagship P9.
But the hardware is better in S7. It doesn’t matter if we’re talking about a smartphone with a Snapdragon 820 processor or a model with an Exynos chipset. Galaxy S7 based on the processor Exynos is gaining 101285 points in the Antutu benchmark (we recall that P9 receives 87889 points). The same flagship with the Snapdragon 820 processor will score a little more points, but there is no cardinal difference.
In most countries, the gadget is sold with an Exynos processor, rarely found on the Snapdragon 820. It’s noted that the phone with Snapdragon 820 will operate 10% less in time due to more power consumption. Also, the speed of autofocus may be slowed down, so the flagship with the Exynos processor is more preferable.
We pointed out the main differences between these smartphones. As for autonomy, they are approximately equal. There are differences in materials and appearance, but these are trifles. So which is better? If we have a look from the point of view of hardware, then more productive is Samsung Galaxy S7. The flagship also has a cool screen and some unusual technologies (Always on display). But at the same time the price is much higher.
P9 wins by price and camera. Thanks to Leica’s experts, the smartphone received cool rear sensors with good software and optics. So we recommend P9 to photographers.
