Huawei P9 vs P9 Plus

The difference between the Huawei P9 and P9 Plus is not really big. Both devices are flagships, and both use the same “hardware”. There is a slight difference in the types of displays used.

The main difference between P9 or P9 Plus is the screen. The last one received an AMOLED screen with a diagonal of 5.5 inches and Full HD resolution, while the flagship P9 has a usual LCD display with a diagonal of 5.2 inches and also Full HD screen.

Note that Huawei is not chasing the display with 2K resolution, and this is quite logical. It is completely illogical to install screens with so many dots per inch, because the difference won’t be visible on displays with a diagonal of 5.2 and 5.5 inches. In addition, an excessively large resolution implies a greater load on the CPU and requires more power. So the P9 Plus uses a more contrasting AMOLED screen, and this is an advantage over the usual Huawei P9 flagship.

There are no differences in the hardware part. Both flagships use processors of in-house development HiSilicon Kirin 955 with 8 cores and video accelerator Mali-T880 MP4. Among the HiSilicon chips, the Kirin 955 is so far the most productive. The chip implements the ARM big.LITTLE architecture: 4 A-53 cores for simple tasks; 4 cores A-72 for the demanding. As a result, weak cores work by default, and productive A-72s are connected to solve complex problems when it is necessary.

Huawei P9 in the benchmark Antutu is gaining 87,889 points, which is a good (but far from ideal) result for the flagship.

Taking into consideration the same hardware in P9 and P9 Plus, it is consistent to assume that Huawei P9 Plus will score the same number of points. There is no difference in performance.

But we should note that the P9 flagship can be equipped with either 3 or 4 GB RAM. The smartphone P9 Plus necessarily has 4 GB RAM. The same applies to the drive. P9 may have 32 or 64 GB of memory for data storage, p9 Plus – 64 or 128 GB.

Both smartphones support the same GSM, LTE, UMTS and Wi-Fi cellular standards, both have the same sensors (gyroscope, fingerprint reader, compass, accelerometer, etc.) and work on identical software – Android 6.0 under EMUI 4.1 .3

Particular attention deserves the camera, or rather, even two. Yes, there are 2 rear sensors, which are used in both phones. And not just on the back panel adorns the inscription Leica. The camera was developed, among others, by Leica employees. The phone, thanks to this company, received modified software and new SUMMARIT lenses with a focal length f / 2.2. As a result, the quality of the photo is more than worthy. Examples are below:

However, the rear camera is not a distinguishing feature between P9 and P9 Plus. The best of these two flagships is the P9 Plus device due to the larger display and memory (remember that there is a version with 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of memory).
