When buying a new refrigerator all buyers hope that the device will work for a long time. It will really work for years if not to forget to take care of it. In this article there are basic rules
The basic rules of care of household refrigerators are presented here.
In the store the eyes diverge from the abundance of models of fridges. There are expensive machines, with automatic defrost cameras, different operating modes, designed by well-known manufactures. Budged models are presented too, which can be defrosted manually. But most of all devices can be attributed to the average price category. Their functionality ranges from mediocre in some models, to different in others. But whatever fridge you choose, it needs a certain care like almost any household appliance.
You have to start taking care of the fridge already when transporting it from the shop to the place of permanent deployment. No wonder the producers written in large letters on the Boxes: “Handle with care!”. This is especially true for refrigerators. It is great if you can transport your fridge in the upright position. It is strongly recommended not to tilt the refrigerator more than 40 degrees. Such “rigor” is not accidental. The fact that if the device is tilted there is a risk that oil will flow from the compressor. And it would be all right if it just emerged. Alas, most likely it can get to the refrigerant circuit. When you ON the device, the oil together with the refrigerant may go even further. The result of this “journey” is the capillary blockage and expensive repair of fridge you just bought.
If you can transport the fridge only in horizontal position, you need to take certain “safety actions”. When you put the device on its side, make sure the leading from the compressor tube looks up. For people who have little idea of the refrigerator structure, there is a special marking indicated on which side to put the unit. Usually it is applied directly on the original packaging, but some manufacturers place it on the compressor. Transport in this position (as labeled) will not save the oil from contact with refrigerant circuit. However, it will get into the low-pressure part of it, and after the refrigerator is ON the oil will be transferred back by the coolant flow.
Unfortunately, not all “specially trained people” involved in the delivery of home appliances from the store to the buyer, are familiar with rules of carriage. So it is better to buy large appliances in well-established shops or transfer it with your own.
Protect the cool from heat
So, you have brought a brand new fridge. Place for him of course you have prepared in advance. But… are you sure you selected a right place? It is clear that in many apartments is a little space, and the installation of large household appliances is available only in concrete places. Still, try to install a fridge in a place without any heaters or other things, which can generate heat. No radiators or any whatsoever heaters or gas or electric stoves. Even direct sunlight is highly undesirable. Don’t place the unit in an unventilated closet. Fresh air or a small draft is needed.
The last bargains home “chip” of recent years is heated floors. As a rule the whole apartment is “insulated”, including the kitchen. And few people think that on this development is reflects negatively on the fridge. Continuous heating from below and constant flow of warm air force the compressor to work in a non-stop mode. It is clear, it is not designed for such loads.
There are 2 ways in this case. The first is simple and radical – don’t make heated floors in the kitchen. And the second – to leave a section of the floor without heating pipes especially for fridge.
Do not turn-on the refrigerator straight after transfer. Let it stand for a little time after the carriage, wash it (read below about washing rules).
Give it “settle” after the carriage, wash it (see below for washing rules). After a couple of hours turn it ON, but without food. Refrigerator needs some time to “cool down” to the desired level.
Clean is the guarantee of health
Any appliance should be kept clean. Refrigerator is not an exception. Refrigerator should be cleaned on the outside, inside and back. Before you begin this procedure, don’t forget to turn off the device from the outlet and remove all products.
The outer surfaces can be periodically cleaned with a damp cloth. Best of all, if it is wetted in a solution of soda. No chemical solvents or abrasive cleaners! It is undesirable to use as soap.
Inside the fridge need care too. Even if you are the proud owner of the unit, equipped with No Frost system that eliminates manual defrosting, washing and cleaning of cameras are required too. While storing food fridge is gradually contaminated, in addition, unpleasant odors are formed in the chambers. Wipe the inner surface with warm water with a small amount of disinfectant. A vaporizer and the rubber door seal better to wash with clean warm water. Read more about how to clean fridge door seals. Never use any powders or acids, for example, chemical solvents.
When washing the fridge don’t let water to get the temperature switch (with electro-mechanical control system) and lighting system. When the unit is cleaned, wipe it with dry soft cloth (flannel may be) on the outside and inside.
However, no one will wash refrigerator every day. Between cleaning, unpleasant smells can be removed with a variety of deodorants, fragrances, and sinks.
Do not forget to clean the back of fridge. A lot of dust usually accumulates there. It is necessary to remove it several times in a year, you can do it carefully with a vacuum cleaner, using the appropriate nozzle. This is especially necessary if your refrigerator condenser passed out and not placed behind the rear wall. In this case the cleaning will improve heat transfer and reduce the power usage of refrigerator. Read more about how to save power of fridge and make it economic.
Some rules on how to maintain fridge
If your refrigerator is not equipped with the No Frost system, then to accelerate the process of defrosting, you can use a hair dryer or air heater. At the same time never place any heating devices in the camera;
Do not attempt to remove “drifts” formed in the freezer with sharp or hard objects. Doing so you could damage the wall of evaporator and destroy the entire refrigerant system. Moreover, there is a risk of a pressurized refrigerant may accidentally get into the eyes.
If you are away for a long time (eg on holiday), it is best to take out all foods, wash it, turn-off and leave with the door open.
As you see, there is no extra hard to take care of fridge. This is the case when efforts are little, and the benefits are palpable.
